Human Rights Watch is calling for international pressure on the Hasina government to protect rights from military violence against peaceful protesters and internet shutdowns.
The NGO points to a 2016 UN Human Rights Council resolution that “shutting down the internet to intentionally prevent or disrupt access to or dissemination of information online violates international human rights law, and all countries should refrain from and cease such actions.”
